Review: I will start by saying that I have read many reviews and have watched many behind the scenes and watched many interviews pertaining to this Film. So, I was really informed about this film. Add to that the 20 some years of X-Men history under my belt.
I know a lot about the X-Men.
I was hell bent on going to a Midnight showing, but thinking on it I decided that probably would be a bad Idea. I was really busy so I made due on going a few days after the opening.
Which gave me plenty of time to listen to people that I know and some I didn’t give me there viewpoints on the Film.
I was surprised of the varied responses that I got. Almost everyone loved the Film…almost.
There was a select few that despised the Film, content on dissecting every detail and every detail that was lacking.
But, I forced my self to try to take in X-Men with no expectations, going with someone that I was sure would hate the film, someone that has seen it and LOVED it and I being the indifferent one.
The Stage was set,……after about 20 minutes of worried nervousness I finally decided I LOVE THIS FILM. Why?
The scene that got me was the surprise deletion of main characters in the beginning of the Film. It made me think, if there are going to do this in the beginning what am I in store for?
BUT OH NO, why kill off characters, well if you have read comics as long as I have, you know no one really dies. So killing off a few characters was no big deal.
Mystic just made me smile every time I saw her, could it be here outfit or the lack of one. No, it was Rebecca’s acting that shined through, even though she had a small part she made the minutes count. I also enjoyed them using here “slave name aka real name” in the movie.
Jean Grey was also good, but I agree with others that they could have done more with the Phoenix Effects, but that is being somewhat trivial. Sure they could have made her floating in the middle of a fiery bird but they didn’t. Ok, that is a bit disappointing, because that would have been Awesome.
Juggernaut was great, again he had just a few lines but he made them count. His accent somehow fit as well. His line, “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM? IM THE JUGGERNAUT BITCH!”. Priceless!
The Rouge character…there was no need for it.
The Storm Character had way more screen time in the Movie. It was nice to see her flying and kicking butt with the lightning. She seemed to have the same moves when she fought, spinning, than hitting with the lightning.
Fight scenes were great, that is what we all want to see is the great fight scenes, especially between Wolverine and the Juggernaut. The part when he hits Logan into the ceiling and than comes flying down through the ceiling in a different room. Nice.
Calisto was alright to me, but she ended the movie in a cool way.
Iceman finally iced up, we all were waiting for it and they did it. I least they listen sometimes.
There were a large number of new characters introduced in this film, and sometimes it seemed they were put in the movie purely for Cannon Fodder. Seeing the Powers was a joy, Pure eye Candy.
Another thing that I think made the Film for me was when Beast roared before the Big Fight. They nailed that one, as well as the intellectual quotes he would spout during it all. Plus the way he fought, some moves you have seen countless times in the Comics, very Agile!
Xavier and Magneto, always cool. They bring credibility to there roles. Seeing them as younger men was neat to see.
So in conclusion I would have to recommend this Film, though I don’t have to. It is doing well on its own. People are talking about it, which is a sign of a Positive Movie going experience.
There are something’s that will bug you if you are familiar with the X-men universe, but I believe the good outweighs the Bad. It will entertain you, that is if you go with a mind set that the movie is not made just for comic book readers, it is made with everyone in mind and of course to make money. They Succeeded.
