Nando has been working as an artist in Spain for some time now. His talent and drive to create have helped him become well rounded and prepared him for a long career within the comic book realm. I like his work, it’s imaginative and interesting. Check out his bio and gallery
NANDO biography
Fernando Vicente (’Nando’), artist and secondary school teacher. Born on the 6th of September 1971 in Salamanca (Spain), the city where he still resides. Graduated in Fine Art from the University of Salamanca (1994) majoring in graphic design and audio-visuals.
Currently divides his time between teaching, graphic design and illustrating comics. In the nineties his artwork began to be published in various Spanish comics such as ‘La Piedra Gorda’, ‘Demanda’, ‘Heroes de la calle’, ‘Zoom’, and ‘El Llapiceru’. After a short break from comic book illustration he began to contribute regularly to comics such as ‘Frenzy’, ‘Boom’ and ‘Gothic Lands’ again in 2002.
In 2006 his artwork was published for the first time in the United States: ‘The Resort’ (Iconic Comics), ‘Innocent Vol. 1′ and ‘Alecto. SongBook’ (King Tractor Press).
I’ve always loved drawing - I’ve been doing it since I was six or seven. I’ve not stopped since then! Drawing’s a huge part of my life.
My interest in comics began a few years later. When I was fourteen I discovered ‘The Savage Sword of Conan’ and ‘Creepy’; they really blew me away and awoke my passion for comics. After that I started reading other comics published in Spain at that time - ‘1984′, ‘Zone 84′, ‘Cimoc’, and ‘Cairo’; they featured artists like Richard Corben, Jose Ortiz, Neal Adams, San Julian, Boris Vallejo, and Jordi Bernet and those guys really influenced my drawing style.
When I began studying art at University I’d already published my first comics in fanzines and magazines, but when I finished my degree I gave up comics for several years. I was a bit disillusioned at the prospect of dedicating myself full-time to drawing comics and I concentrated instead on my music and graphic design.
But in 2002 I began to get interested in comics again. I started drawing again with the idea of getting published regularly in comics.
During years 2004 and 2005, among other works, I have drawn the 4 issues miniseries “The Resort” for Iconic Comics and it will be published in 2006. In 2005, I have drawn one chapter for the new character “Innocent”, that will be published in “Innocent Vol.1″ for King Tractor Press. And in 2006 I have drawn my first graphic novel “Alecto, SongBook” that will be published for King Tractor Press too.
