“In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear,
The hurrying hoof beat of that steed, and
the midnight message of Paul Revere.”

If you have read any of my comic reviews, then you know that originality scores high in my book; and ‘Revere’ is original. It’s fresh in so many ways I will have a hard time covering them all in this single article.

I had the chance to read Revolution In Silver Part 1 and 2 this evening. Typically since I am starting late, I would just go ahead and write a single review for both books, but ‘Revere’ is so good that I have decided to write it in two parts. Book one and two deserve equal consideration, I think.

If you are late in coming to this incredibly cool story let me catch you up. Part one of ‘Revere’ is set during the Revolutionary War. It is a turbulent and dangerous time for the colonies. The Redcoats are not only coming, they have arrived and bloodshed flows in their wake. But darker forces are at play within the confines of this battle. The forests are teaming with creatures of the night and the nations hope lies securely in the hands of a single man; Paul Revere.

‘Revere’ is a gripping, absorbing, tale that begs to be read. The characters are human and well fleshed out. I found myself immediately drawn to Paul. He embodies all the qualities that are necessary for a truly great hero. He is courageous, brave, and still he retains the humanity that we all relate to. First and foremost he is a loving father and husband, yet in the midst of this he is willing to give his life for what he believes is right.

The writing for ‘Revere’ is aptly handled by the very talented Ed Lavallee. You may already know the man from his work on the Indie-Comic Archeon, which is soon to be a trade paperback. Ed’s characters, story and pacing are natural and unencumbered, the tale is well thought and a joy to read. His writing within these pages is poetic. I have read so many comics lately, but ‘Revere’ stands out from the crowed easily.

The art duties for ‘Revere’ have been assumed by Grant Bond. At this juncture you might say to yourself, who is Grant Bond? Well Grant Bond is going to be one of the next big comic artists, I grantee it. The pages of ‘Revere’ are beautifully rendered; eye candy is the first phrase that strikes me. His artwork is flat out awesome.

I LOVED THIS BOOK! I WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE!

‘Revere’ is the “Mr. Toads wild ride” of comics. It throws you neck deep into the fantastical realm of Paul Revere and leaves you begging for more.
