Found a very cool article on Cosplay in America. For the most part it is right on, and Americans just don’t put the time and effort into the costumes as the Japanese. What is Cosplay: Fanboys and fangirls dress up like their favorite characters and go to conventions and show of the awesomeness of how much they look like their fantasy counterparts (be it video games, anime, manga, movies, etc.) Also if your pasty white and overweight, don’t try to be a 13 year ninja!
