astro boySo many films are in development right now that it’s hard to keep up. But with a little research, a small amount of effort and a love for movies that goes above and beyond the norm, we here at Herospy have put together a short list of films in development that will excite even the most die hard movie fan. It will also get the mouths of most comic fans watering a bit.

Over these last years the film industry has taken a huge interest in the comic world. With that interest we have seen Batman brought back from the movie scrap yard and revived. We were taken back to Smallville and found our Superman safe and sound. This is the renaissance of comics, the decade of the blockbuster and comics are leading the way. Check out the top ten movies in development that you may have never thought you would see on the big screen.

    #1. The Avengers

The True development of this film won’t begin until the filming of Ironman and Captain America are complete, but according to Marvel the script is set to be written by screenwriter Zak Penn as soon as he is finished writing the script for the next Incredible Hulk film.

    #2. Astro Boy

This Manga classic will be a CGI wonder and has already been placed in the competent hands of Cartoon creator Genndy Tartakovsky, you know the man’s work from such awesome cartoons as Samurai Jack. Astro Boy is scheduled for release in 2008.

    #3. Ex Machina

Brian K. Vaughan’s award winning comic about a superpowered New York city Mayor with any luck should make it to the big screen in 2007. New Line Cinema is set to distribute and the word on the street is that a script draft has already been written but no director is attached.

    #4. The Flash

David Goyer is set to direct and Ryan Reynolds is prepared to don the red suite. I for one don’t think anyone could play the Flash better then Reynolds, he displayed his action skills in Blade 3 and his comic chops are spot on. If this movie isn’t a hit at the box office I will cry.

#5. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Guillermo Del Toro is back along with the full cast, sounds like a slam dunk to me. Production is set to begin in April of 2007.

    #6. The Mutant Chronicles

Based on the 1993 role playing game, a 23rd century soldier leads a fight against an army of NecroMutants – undead beings fashioned from the body parts of humans. The film has been targeted for release sometime in 2007.

#7. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Based on the ever popular video game series Jerry Bruckheimer is attached to produce. The script revolves around a Prince that must stop an evil ruler from unleashing a deadly sandstorm upon the world.

    #8. Shazam

New Line Cinema is developing this comic classic as we speak. Peter Segal who directed The Longest Yard is ready to say the magic word we all long to hear: SHAZAM! There is no release date yet but you can bet we will let you know when we know.

    #9. Splinter Cell

If you love this game as I do then you can only imagine what a fantastic movie this could be. Dreamworks Entertainment is developing this project with an eye for a 2008 release. No actors have been attached but I for one would love to see Daniel Craig from the recent bond film step up. He would be perfect.

    #10.Voltron

The script is complete, that’s all I was able to find out. This may be a stupid film, but if the high end special effects are there in the end I will probably be setting in the front row waiting to be awed and inspired.
