Here comes a Superman reboot much like Marvel rebooted Hulk. Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov has told The Wall Street Journal that the studio is going to be reintroducing Superman.

Since Superman Returns was so completely forgettable this turn of events is a nice move, but on the other hand, who really cares? Superman plays pitch perfect as a comic character but the movie will never work unless you can somehow flush out something that makes him relatable to the general public. The problem with DC regarding the Superman franchise is that they don’t want to allow his character to be real. By the way there is a major down side to this re-launch. The downside is that we wont be seeing Justice League or Superman vs. Batman hitting the theaters anytime soon. It appears that what Bryan Singer did for Marvel with the X-Men films, he did the opposite for DC with Superman Returns. Is Bryan the ultimate anti DC comic fan boy? That remains to be seen.

Now DC execs have this to say about the upcoming DC Universe films up their sleeves: Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.

I like how the execs at DC think. I mean really, if the Dark Knight has a dark theme and people liked Batman so much, why not take every one of the DC characters and give them a dark theme too. Originality is dead in Hollywood. I can’t wait to see Superman brooding around Metropolis in his bright blue and red tights just like Batman. This should be good
