In comics they say that great writing can’t save bad artwork. I’m not saying that the writing in Cable #12 is great but the artwork is awful. I don’t typically set down at my keyboard prepared to judge someones art, because I think it is rude and pointless. The reason I’m writing’s this piece is two fold, #1 the cover of this title is fantastic. The young Messiah Child holding Cable’s polished metallic arm is touching in it’s simplicity, it conveys emotion and begs you to pick up the book. But once you flip to the first page, low and behold, your deep felt emotion is replaced with the feeling that you’ve been cheated somehow; the old bate and switch. I understand that the cover of a comic rarely represents the content of the book. The cover artist puts a lot of time into creating a great cover and I appreciate his effort, but the interiors of Cable #12 are truly bad, worse then I have seen in awhile. Shame on you Marvel, you guys are better than that. #2. How does a comic of this quality make it through the rigorous editing process at a company like Marvel. I have been reading a lot of indie titles lately and the artwork and quality of these self published books are head and shoulders above this comic. Independent books, once upon a time, were for those who couldn’t make it in the mainstream. I believe that we’re now reaching a point where independent comics will surpass the mainstream. Now days high quality publishing has become more accessible and cost effective, and maybe with just a little more help, and the right marketing and distribution, the world of The independent comic will have it’s day in the sun. I hope that day lasts for many moons.

PRELUDE TO WAR — “WASTELAND BLUES,” PART 2 OF 2
For more than seven years, Cable has focused on one thing: protecting the little girl who he believes will grow up to become the savior of mutantkind. But now they’ve timeslid into a barren, lifeless pocket of the future, where there’s no food, no water, and no way out. When Cable collapses from hunger and exhaustion, the girl faces the first challenge of her young life: saving her protector.

Tell me about it. I have piked up book because of the covers and looked inside and put them right back down.
