Superheros 2 Cinema this week is filled with yummy movie tidbits. From the upcoming Star Trek Movie right down to Russel Crowe as Robin Hood.
Concept picture of the new Star Trek monster
This kind of generic looking creature was created by the same guy that designed the Cloverfield Monster. Weather the monster is scary or not really isn’t all that important. I think the upcoming Star Trek movie looks to be a lot of fun.
“The Hobbit” movie news
In an exclusive interview with Empire magazine, Guillermo Del Toro and Peter Jackson shed some light on the highly anticipated release of “The Hobbit”.
Here’s what they had to say:
“We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur,” says Del Toro.
“We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie,” adds Jackson. “The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy.”
Russell Crowe is “Robin Hood”
USA Today gives us a “first look” picture of Russel Crow as Robin Hood. He looks great! I’ll watch it.

“The Umbrella Academy” Maybe coming soon!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal is setting up a film project based on the Dark Horse comic “The Umbrella Academy” for Mark Bomback (“Live Free or Die Hard”) to adapt. The comic was created by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way. Mark Richardson is producing.
The comic tells of “a group of disbanded superheroes who reunite after the death of their adoptive father, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, an alien disguised as a wealthy entrepreneur. Hargreeves collected the members of the group shortly after their birth and trained them to save the world, and after his death, they carry on his plan.
The comic first came out as a six-issue miniseries in 2007, winning an Eisner Award to the surprise of many. A second miniseries is being published.”
Will Arnett Joins “Jonah Hex” cast
Will Arnett has joined the cast of Warner Bros.’ “Jonah Hex,” an action western based on a DC comic character. Michael Shannon (“Revolutionary Road”) is also in talks to join the film as well.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that both actors join a cast which already comprises of Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Megan Fox.
The character of Jonah Hex tells of a gunslinger and bounty hunter who is partially disfigured and wears a Confederate uniform. His adventures “always ended in blood” and in some stories in the comic book, there are supernatural elements. The studio will keep Neveldine and Taylor’s script but Hayward will likely make changes as well.
