Do You Want to Work in Comics?

smalllogoSo you’ve written a killer comic book script. It’s completely original. The characters are flawlessly cool. The topics are so red hot that it’s nearly guaranteed that your new book will take the comic world by storm. The only problems are… you have no artistic skill, no artist friends and no idea how to find someone to illustrate your grand opus. In the past your options were limited at best. You either had to haunt the comic book forums asking for help, or tread through artists ally at your local comic con hoping to meet Miss or Mr. right. I can tell you from years of experience that finding an artist can be rough and putting together a comic team (artist, lettering, writer) can be, or at least feel, near impossible.

The fine folks at Septagon Studios have created a new website (www.workincomics.com) which they believe will be a cure for this frustrating malady. The concept is simply to connect writers, artists and creators into one convenient location. Work in Comics is a social network for those of us who want to break in to the comic book industry.

Septagon Studios describes Work in Comics like this:

“Our goal at Work In Comics is to help you find independent creators in all areas of comic development. It is a place where people looking for work in comics can find opportunities or create their own. We have great tools and resources available to help get you started on your way to building your comic team and getting your comic project realized.”

Work in Comics makes finding a writer, choosing an artist, searching for opportunities in the comic industry or building a comic team, easier than it has ever been before.

I was given the chance to play around with the site during the beta testing stage and I am profoundly impressed. There is a lot to peruse on the site and a mass of possibilities. I would suggest creating a username and password first thing. Even if you aren’t planning on using the site immediately, obtaining a really good screen name while this service is in its infant stage may prove to be beneficial in the long run. Once you have registered your screen-name and set up your profile it’s time to get crackin’, so lets review your options and take a look at WORK IN COMICS.

Above is a screen shot of the main page and below you can clearly see the categories. If you are looking for a writer click on “Looking for Writers” if you need an artist click on “Looking for Artist”, need I say more. As long as you have a login, you shouldn’t have a real problem here. Wander through the ads and find your team or be more proactive by posting an ad.

As I’m sure you can already see, Work in Comics covers a lot of ground. This is the future of Indy comics. With the release of this awesome site I believe that the hours lost trying to cobble together a comic may be gone. Putting together the right people with the right ideas has finally become manageable. We are going to begin seeing Indy comics hitting the shelves in the future that will be higher quality and more profitable. I guarantee that a large amount of credit will be owed to Septigon Studios and their Work in Comics Website.
