The last page of this book made me scream NOOOOOOOOO!!!

Holly Hoxxx is simply one of the best Sci-Fi books I have read in a really long time. Written by brothers Austin and Adam Tinius, who by the way knock the script out of the park, and illustrated by the talented Stefano Cardoselli, Hoxxx blew me away.

In the year 2051 gravity is a thing of the past. If you aren’t carful there’s a chance you could float off into space. A company called Tycho Industries has cornered the market on gravity boots for the last 30 years but a new company has entered the ring and is threatening to do away with gravity boots all together and maybe even fix the gravity problem once and for all. While this intriguing plot line is taking place the young and beautiful one time spokesperson for Tycho Industires Holli Hoxxx has reappeared after thirty years. She is discovered buried in sand and looking a bit too perfect considering she’s been in the ground for 3 decades. As Holli goes in search of her Father we are introduced to a dark hopeless world run by corporations and technology. We soon learn that Holli must find her father and her destiny before the world runs out of time.

The premise alone makes this worth reading, but Austin and Adam’s writing put it over the top. They have crafted a fantastical yet familiar world. It’s a future that could be and the suspension of disbelief is effortless. Holli Hoxxx could be made into a big budget studio film right now as is. Please Hollywood; please make this into a movie for me right now as is.

Cardoselli’s artwork is a perfect match, blending clean lines with rough, dark, splotchy, textures. It has an imperfect quality to it, and while imperfect is often a flaw to a good comic, in this case it works. The illustrations capture the energy and mood of the story. These are not streamline, conventional, comic book graphics, this is art. It’s not meant to be perfect, it’s meant to convey an emotional experience, and it does, and it does it extremely well.

Holli Hoxxx is a brilliant, beautifully enthralling, piece of Sci-Fi perfection. It’s the type of book which creates comic book fans where none existed before. If you love comics, this is a must read, and if you have never picked up a graphic novel in your life, this is the taste preceding the addiction. Welcome geeks, come one come all, you won’t leave disappointed.
