Bolland’s linework, attention to detail, and incredible talent for creating unique and interesting compositions is almost enough in itself to make him the definitive Judge Dredd artisit, but there is something more to it then that. Bolland illustrated Dredd like a magician presents an illusion. The books were black and white and filled with effortless lines. His entire run is magical. Bolland’s Dredd is too cool.
Bolland latter teamed up with Alan Moore on the quintessential Batman comic, Batman: The Killing Joke. Remember that little chestnut?
Now IDW has decided to pack a hard bound book with the entire Brian Bolland run of Dredd in perfect, pristine, black and white, just as it was originally printed, and this book is going to be EPIC!
What makes this whole thing even more exciting is the fact that they will be following this collection with a re-mastered full color edition.
Chris Ryall of IDW had this to say, “I first experienced Judge Dredd in the form of the Eagle Comics reprints from the early ‘80s, so it’ll be fun to pay that forward and let a new generation of readers also experience that material in monthly color comics, albeit with the benefit of 21st century coloring and printing techniques.”
IDW has more Jude Dredd archival projects planed to compliment the new Judge Dredd series soon to hit the stands, so it will be interesting to see what’s on the horizon. For now I’ really pumped to grab this edition and add it to the old collection.
