“If I knew the book was going to be this successful, I would have put a lot more effort into it. Oh well, too late now.” -MAD Editor John Facarra.
A generation of adults cut there satiric teeth on the kooky and often irreverent Mad Magazine. I personally looked forward to simply folding the back page together in expectation of seeing some lured if not disturbing hidden image.
The 256-page book is organized by decade and boasts a cornucopia of great comedy writers, cartoonist and humorous illustrators, or “The Usual Gang of Idiots” as they have long called themselves.
With a special Forward by MAD Fans including some notable names like Stephen Colbert, and Eric Drysdale, the book also contains a removable set of 12 classic front covers.
Totally Mad is a nostalgia machine and it certainly doesn’t surprise me that it has hit the top spot on the New York Times Best seller list. If I wasn’t so poor, I’d buy one too.
